Sunset on the harbor with your own wine

The Summer Wind sails out of the Inner Harbor Marina in the evening with six guests at most, a corkscrew and glasses ready for the bottle you bring. It is the one trip here built for a date or an anniversary, not for history.

Inner Harbor BYOB Sunset Sail

About this experience

American Sailing Tours runs its sunset sail on the Summer Wind, the 48-foot schooner it also uses for daytime harbor sails. You bring a bottle of wine, the crew supplies a corkscrew and glasses, puts music on low and sails the harbor while the sun goes down and the lights come up. With six guests at most, you can move around the deck. It holds a 4.9 from 58 reviews, the best score of any trip on this site.

Fort McHenry is not part of the promise. The listing talks about sunset, photos, music and wine, and says nothing about the fort, so do not book it to see the ramparts. If you want the fort from the water, take the schooner sail or the harbor cruise in daylight. Fort entry, $15 per adult aged 16 and over, is sold only by the National Park Service.

Two caveats from guests. The sunset itself is not guaranteed: one guest in July 2022 said the boat sailed away from it and buildings blocked the view, and another said the start was late and most of the trip was in the dark. And the season is short. On 16 October 2026 the next date open on Viator was in May 2027, at a 7:15 p.m. start.

What guests say

★★★★★

We brought a bottle of wine and they supplied us with glasses! Beautiful soft music played from speakers on board and truly gorgeous views. The sunset wasn't obstructed by any buildings and the captain took us to the best spot for photos with the sunset.

Tips before you book

  • Check the sunset time for your date and pick a sail that starts about an hour before it. One guest's trip ran late and was mostly in the dark.
  • Bring a layer: evenings on the water get chilly, even in early fall.
  • Pack snacks with the wine. Guests have brought both, and one crew kept a bottle on ice.
  • Confirmation can take up to 48 hours on this listing, so don't leave it to the day before.
  • Visit the fort earlier the same day: it opens at 9:00 a.m. and the last entry is 4:45 p.m., which leaves the evening for the sail.

Do not count on it. The listing does not mention the fort, and the route follows the sunset. Book the schooner sail or the harbor cruise in daylight to see the fort from the water.

Can you bring your own alcohol?

Yes, that is the idea: bring your own bottle of wine, and the crew provides a corkscrew and glasses. Guests have also brought snacks.

What boat is the sunset sail on?

The Summer Wind, American Sailing Tours' 48-foot two-masted schooner, with six guests at most.

When does the sunset sail run?

In the warm months. On 16 October 2026 the next open date on Viator was in May 2027, with a 7:15 p.m. start. Start times move with the sunset.
